Guest Experience
Moneypenny
Moneypenny provides outsourced telephone answering, virtual reception, live chat and related customer-contact services. UK-based receptionists can answer in the business's name, transfer calls, take messages, handle agreed questions, book appointments and support selected administrative tasks. Coverage can be used for overflow, out-of-hours calls or as a wider reception service.
Independent perspective
Our review
Moneypenny offers trained people to answer calls, including round-the-clock coverage, without the hotel building an additional reception rota. A named 36-bedroom UK hotel with a restaurant appears in the recorded references. We see its strongest value in properties where missed calls or limited desk cover are costing enquiries and where a human answering service is part of the desired guest experience.
Our main reservation is the complete monthly cost and what the answering team can do. UK pricing was not published in the reviewed material, and wider commentary described costs increasing with fuller cover. A PMS connection was not established, so the team should not be assumed to see live room availability or guest records. Public feedback also includes individual concerns about variable call handling.
We would trial real calls, including a detailed enquiry and an urgent guest issue. Agree the script, included minutes, overage charges, escalation, setup scope and data arrangements. The recorded minimum term was three months, but the full exit position needs confirming.
Our verdict
We recommend considering Moneypenny where dependable human answering is worth paying for and the call process is clear. It is less suited to hotels requiring live reservations access or those unable to absorb variable usage costs. Judge it on answered enquiries and guest handling rather than coverage alone.
The assessment
What stands out
Strengths
Established human answering service. Dedicated receptionists and small supporting teams provide continuity without relying only on voicemail or an automated voice.
Flexible call handling. Businesses can divert all calls, unanswered calls or calls at selected times, with evening, weekend and 24-hour options available.
Strong overall customer feedback. A large Trustpilot sample frequently praises professional and friendly call handling, responsive account managers and reliable support.
Can do more than take a message. Agreed workflows can include call transfer, diary booking, enquiry qualification, payment taking and updating supported business systems.
Worth knowing
This is an outsourced service rather than hotel operations software. The quality of the result depends on the instructions, knowledge and escalation rules supplied by the property. Complex reservation, guest complaint or emergency calls still need a clear route to hotel staff.
Standard service hours and 24-hour cover differ, and pricing depends on call volume and the work completed. Confirm inclusive minutes, transfers, out-of-hours cover, additional tasks and charges above the allowance before comparing it with an employed receptionist.
The large Trustpilot sample is strongly positive, but reviewers occasionally report variation in call handling and firm billing communication. The much smaller G2 sample also notes that emergency handling can improve. Test urgent-call procedures and review recorded calls during onboarding.
Operational fit
Where it fits
- Answer, transfer or take messages for incoming calls when the property team is unavailable.
- Provide overflow, holiday, evening, weekend or 24-hour reception cover.
- Handle agreed questions, bookings, lead qualification and selected payment tasks.
- Send call notes and outcomes to staff or supported systems for follow-up.
Best suited for
Independent hotels, hospitality groups and other businesses that miss calls, need overflow or out-of-hours reception cover, and prefer trained people to handle customer conversations.
May not suit
Properties expecting the service to replace a PMS, booking engine or trained duty manager, and operators without clear scripts, escalation contacts and ownership of call quality.
