Lightspeed Restaurant (K-Series)
Lightspeed Restaurant K-Series is a cloud-based point of sale system for restaurants, bars, cafés and hotel food and beverage outlets. It handles ordering, payments, kitchen workflows, stock and reporting. Multi-location management is available for larger operations, while hotel use depends on a compatible PMS connection for posting charges to guest rooms.
Independent perspective
Our review
Lightspeed Restaurant puts ordering, kitchen communication and floor service at the centre of the product. Public reviewers consistently value the ease of learning the service screens. The Mews connection recorded by both suppliers is useful for hotels because outlet charges can reach the guest bill. We see its strongest value in hotels with a substantial restaurant, bar or several outlets.
Our main reservation is the complete commitment and the depth of the back office. The reviewed setup requires Apple devices and an additional monthly charge for the PMS connection. The recorded agreement carries a fixed annual term, early exit charges and a defined notice window. Public reviewers also raise support concerns despite advertised round-the-clock availability, and stock functions deserve closer testing than the service screens.
We would price the hardware, connection and processing together, then test the actual room-charge flow and reporting. Agree the direction of the connection rather than assuming information travels both ways. Stock-heavy operations should demonstrate recipes, deliveries and counts separately.
Our verdict
We recommend considering Lightspeed for hotels and groups with meaningful food and beverage turnover and a supported PMS. It is less suited to a rooms-only property or an operator needing to retain incompatible hardware. Its strengths are in service; the wider workflow needs checking against the outlet’s requirements.
The assessment
What stands out
Strengths
Straightforward front-of-house operation. Public product reviews frequently praise ease of use, quick staff training and the day-to-day ordering workflow.
Useful restaurant reporting. Sales, staff, payment and location reporting are built into the back office. More advanced insights and group features depend on the package selected.
Designed for several outlets and locations. Menus, reporting and customer information can be managed across locations, making it more suitable for hotel groups and multi-outlet venues than a basic standalone till.
Broad hospitality ecosystem. Lightspeed publishes connections for property management, reservations, workforce, ordering and accounting products. Each important connection should still be checked for method, cost and data flow.
Worth knowing
The package matters. The entry plan covers core till functions, while kitchen display, inventory, advanced insights, multi-location management, PMS connections and API access may require a higher plan or an additional charge. Ask for a quote showing every terminal, module, connection, payment fee and implementation cost.
Public feedback is positive overall, particularly for ease of use. Recurring concerns include support response times, billing or contract queries, occasional software problems and limitations in some back-office, inventory and reporting workflows. These themes are not reported by every user, but they should be tested during the demonstration and covered in the support agreement.
The large Trustpilot profile covers Lightspeed as a whole, including retail and payments. It is useful when considering the supplier relationship, but it must not be presented as a K-Series product score.
Operational fit
Where it fits
- Take orders and payments at the table or till.
- Send orders to kitchen displays and coordinate front and back of house.
- Review sales, staff, payment and location performance.
- Manage menus and reporting across multiple outlets or locations.
- Post restaurant charges to a hotel guest account where a supported PMS connection is configured.
Best suited for
Restaurants, bars, cafés and hotels with a substantial food and beverage operation that need a dedicated POS, kitchen workflow and outlet reporting. It is particularly relevant for multi-outlet or multi-location operators prepared to select the appropriate package and confirm the connection to their PMS and finance systems.
May not suit
Room-only properties, very small food and beverage operations that only need a basic till, or businesses seeking the lowest-cost month-to-month option. It may also be unsuitable where a required PMS or accounting connection is not confirmed, where existing hardware must be retained, or where the operation expects advanced inventory and group reporting in the entry package.
